In February 2003, A Hopeless Motive formed with Lonnie, Justin, and Forrest. Lonnie was on the guitar, Justin guitar and vocals, and Forrest on bass. At the time they did not have a drummer. About 2 weeks later, they had their first couple of songs "Ours is theres" and "End the emo". By then, Justin had learned that he couldn't play guitar very well at all, so he stuck to just vocals, which worked out for all of them pretty well. About a month after they started, Jeff joined the band as back up guitarist. Two days later, Justin and Lonnie were walking in the mall and met Chuy. They talked to him for a while and he started to drum for them.  After a month of being together with Chuy in the band, Justin, Lonnie, Jeff, and Chuy started to get a little pissed off at Forrest. So, he had to leave the band. About a week later, A Hopeless Motive had their first show and they played with The Monumentals. After that, they continuously practiced at Justin's house. Later on in May, A Hopeless Motive played their second show along with The Monumentals, Under the Knife. And then again, they practiced continuously at Justin's house until around June when they had their third show with The Monumentals, Ester, and Just Another Day. About 3 weeks later, they broke up. Chuy decided that he would rather be in a band with people more of his age (he was like 5 years older than them), he also decided that from Virginia Beach to Chesapeake was way too long of a drive for him. So, when he quit, Jeff quit, and then lonnie quit, so poor little justin was left all alone.

But wait! There is more!!! Later in November, Lonnie and Justin said, "What the hell?! Let's just get a new bassist and a new drummer. So they did. They got Trey on bass, and Jake from The Monumentals on drums. About 2 weeks later, they played a show at The Elk's Lodge. After that Jake left the band and they replaced him with Sam from The Tragedies to play drums. After a while Trey was having difficulties keeping up with the band so he was replaced with the old bassist Fatt Jeff.
